SPONSORSHIP MATRIX  


In order to make decisions regarding sponsorship with the best interests of the LGBTQ2S+ community in mind, we developed a Sponsorship Matrix in 2017 to assist us with discussion and decision making.  

We are committed to approaching decisions from a variety of perspectives to ensure safety and celebration for our community members, all while balancing budgetary needs to pull off a festival and event of this size.  We have also committed to move away from a title sponsorship model to address corporatization in an effort to ensure Pride celebrations remain in the spirit of how they were started as much as possible. 

The matrix is used to rate potential sponsors against certain criteria:

  • The business or organization supports the LGBTQ2S+ community in Kamloops

  • The business or organization does not sell products that harm the LGBTQ2S+ community

  • The business or organization has policies that encourage diversity with regard to sexual orientation and gender identity/expression

  • The business or organization has no record of homophobia and/or transphobia

  • The business is not a political organization with a history of anti-LGBTQ2S+ viewpoints or has not made contributions to such groups

  • No concerns have been raised about the business or organization by the LGBTQ2S+ community or communities that intersect with the community

  • The business or organization has not placed implicit or explicit conditions on Kamloops Pride in exchange for sponsorship

Potential sponsors are given either a positive rating if the statement is accurate, or a negative rating if the statement is not accurate.  From there, the Board of Directors uses the results of the tool to engage in discussions and make a decision.
