Contributions Made to the 2SLGBTQPIA+ Community

I did sign up as a volunteer with Kamloops Pride, but have received very few requests.

Why They Want to Join the Board

I've found it very difficult to integrate into the gay community in Kamloops. It seems almost every member of the Kamloops Pride Board is female, so males are extremely poorly represented. I believe the board needs to expand its perspective. I am cis male bi, and I don't drink. It seems that events hosted by Kamloops Pride seem to include mostly trans, lesbians, and those attracted by drag performances. First, I want to join the board to understand how the society functions and then become more involved in expanding the scope of activities so people like me do not feel left out.

Skills

Previous experience on a Board of Directors, Organizational skills, Event planning, Passion for volunteerism, Google Drive/Gmail experience, Board governance, Technology and internet literacy, Website building and updating, Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Director of Youth Engagement

About Themselves

I am a 45 year old non-binary single mom to two amazing queer kids, ages 9 and 12. I am interested in either a general director position or in the Director of Youth Engagement position. My strengths are definitely in communications, creativity and community building. I would love to be a part of creating more opportunities for queer youth.

I work in the community as an anti-violence counsellor/sexual abuse counsellor/art therapist for children and youth for Kamloops Sexual Abuse Counselling Centre. I have been in this field for almost 20 years. I am also a local drag king (Gene Debender). Another interest of mine is creating more opportunities for drag and other queer art forms in the community.

I do have experience being on a board of directors. I was on the board of Chase and Area Family Services for 3 years before I moved here, one year serving as president. I am with my kids four days a week so I would require some flexibility in involving my kids in events, or possibly bringing them with me to meetings.

Thanks for considering me!

Contributions Made to the 2SLGBTQPIA+ Community

- I have volunteered with past Chase pride events

- I held 2SLGBTQPIA+ youth art therapy groups

- I work as a therapist with 2SLGBTQPIA+ youth and families: this includes one to one work as well as advocacy in community

- I have helped plan and organize drag events for new/emerging artists

Why They Want to Join the Board

I recently moved here and I would like to engage more with the community and meet new people. I think I have a lot of relevant skills and experience and as a parent have a particular lens. I would also love to see more opportunities for queer parents and families to get together.

Administrative Assistant (Secretary)

About Themselves

I'm in my early 20s, and have lived in Kamloops for about 2 and a half years. I live with my fiancee Alexandria and our cat Daisy. Professionally, I'm an early childhood professional and full-spectrum Indigenous birthworker, and I own a small business called Strawberry Birthwork. I'm also enrolled at TRU, currently pursuing an Indigenous Studies certificate.

I am fluent in French and English, and practice basic Spanish, ASL, and Anishinaabemowin.

In my free time, I'm everywhere! I act in various short films, features, and theatre productions, and work occasionally as a script supervisor. I love to workout, especially with my partner. I also craft just about everything, write poetry, sing, play several instruments, and get involved in random creative projects.

I am largely motivated by wanting to create inclusive spaces of belonging, promote positive change in the community, and empower community members through education.

Contributions Made to the 2SLGBTQPIA+ Community

Beyond my work on the board, I have:

- Volunteered my time in other (non-KP) 2SLGBTQIA+-hosted events and fundraisers

- Advocated for Two-Spirit and Indigiqueer inclusion in Indigenous spaces and events

- Helped promote awareness on matters that intersectionally impact 2SLGBTQIA+ community members (such as collaborating with others in the creation of a MMIWG2S+ awareness walk that recived significant media attention)

I am also a doula that, among other specialities, specializes in 2SLGBTQIA+ birthing advocacy.

Why They Want to Join the Board

The past nine to ten months of experience of the board have been incredible rewarding and meaningful. I've gotten to see so many new sides of our community and become a more active and impactful community member. I really want to continue to contribute to the Society and help us grow and spread our impact, like with further social justice intitiatives and our new BIPOC group.

I would love to continue to stay on the board in the Administrative Assistant position because I feel that my unique skills and interests fit this role, and I enjoy covering minutes for meetings and organizing emails. I also want to work to grow our society engagement and inter-communication. However, I am more than happy to stay on as a General Director or consider another named role on the board if I am not elected.

About Themselves

I am a 28-year-old working professional and artist. I am a queer woman who grew up in the Kamloops area and was lucky enough to spend my early adulthood pursuing a Fine Arts education in cities like Vancouver and Toronto. Though my background is in Performing Arts and Film Production, my practice today includes Burlesque, Fashion, Painting, Collage, Photography, Poetry, and an ever-growing number of multi-media experimentations. In my free time I freelance as a social media manager and content creator.

My interests lie in the more whimsical parts of life; the occult, mythology and folklore, the politics of aesthetic, the history of of women and their labor, vintage collecting, and throwing silly little parties to celebrate my friends and romanticize our shared experience. My Big Picture passions center community-building for queer and marginalized folks. It's my dream to live in a city that prioritizes people over profit and I want to be a part of making it happen here in every way that I can.

Contributions Made to the 2SLGBTQPIA+ Community

It has been my privilege to serve as the Vice President of Kamloops Pride for the past year. In my capacity as VP I helped to plan and run the 2026 Pride festival in Kamloops, and oversaw the Events committee that is responsible for monthly events like Rainbrews and Rainbow Reads, as well as shows and dances throughout the year.

This role has also allowed me to support others in the creation of new initiatives and groups. I have met and connected with members of this community through my involvement with Kamloops Pride. I look forward to deepening my relationships in Kamloops and finding new ways to serve the 2SLGBTQPIA+ community as I continue this important work.

Why They Want to Join the Board

When I became the Vice President, it was because there was an identified need and I had the time and interest to give to it. In that role, I found myself helping to oversee an organization full of the most talented, kind, passionate, and curious individuals I have ever had the pleasure of working alongside. They deserve an engaged leadership team who cares about the continued growth of Kamloops Pride into a community resource for 2SLGBTQPIA+ people. While there are big shoes to fill, I now seek Presidentship for the same reason: there is need, and I have capacity and desire to see this organization thrive. My experience as VP has given me the foundation needed to step into this role with compassion and enthusiasm.
